Why does Math Fact Fluency matter?Math fact fluency helps students develop a strong foundation for more advanced mathematical concepts and problem-solving in real-world situations. When students are fluent in their basic math facts they don't need to spend time figuring out simple calculations, therefore, their working memory (which handles the processing of information) is freed up to focus on understanding the overall problem and developing solutions. Finally, and (we feel) most importantly, when students can quickly and accurately solve basic math problems, they tend to feel more confident and capable in math, which can reduce math anxiety.
-
Is math fact fluency all about rote learning and remembering multiplication tables?Absolutely not! While memorization plays a part, true fluency also involves understanding number relationships, using mental strategies, and being able to apply facts flexibly and accurately. Math fact fluency is about understanding the underlying concepts and relationships between numbers. For example, understanding that 7 x 8 is the same as (7 x 7) + 7, or that addition and subtraction are inverse operations, allows students to solve problems more efficiently and confidently. Math Fact Fluency also involves being able to choose the most appropriate strategy for a given problem and apply it accurately. This involves using mental math strategies, number bonds, and basic algebraic techniques.

How long will it take my child to learn their basic multiplication facts using the Royal Prep Math Fact Fluency ProgramThe time it takes for a child to learn basic multiplication facts using our Math Fact Fluency program can vary, and it's important to consider individual differences in learning speed and processing abilities, however, students who apply themselves to practicing the strategies (with our ongoing support) generally exit the program after approximately 20 weeks.

What will it look like for my child when they sign up for the Math Fact Fluency Program? There are two options for your child to master their math facts: 1) Individual online tutoring sessions: A tutor will work with your child independently and personalize the program to meet them where they are. From that point, your student will learn various strategies that allow them to play around with factors and multiples. 2) Small group online sessions: A tutor will work with a small group of students who are at the same place in their math fact fluency journey. These groups will receive a variety of strategies to help them develop their number sense, and have the opportunity to work in a more social setting with other group members.
-
How much does the individual tutoring cost?Individual tutoring is catered to the needs of your child, therefore, we welcome you to contact us for a free coaching call, so we can establish and agree on the best course of action to take. Most students require one session per week and are able to self-direct themselves through the practice activities, while other students prefer a more regular schedule. The bottom line is that we will work with you to find the right fit.
-
How much do the small group online sessions cost? Each small group online session is limited to a maximum of 12 students. The Summer Program runs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and costs $30 per session. This is an accelerated program which aims to ensure students have achieved math fact fluency by the beginning of September. Of course, we all have varying schedules and it may not be possible for your child to attend every session; not to worry... small group sessions continue all year round and if fluency isn't achieved by September, it could well happen by October. Math Fact Fluency is not reliant on time (or timed tests, for that matter) but on the consistent application of intentionality.

How do I sign up for the Self-Paced Year Long Program?Simply contact us for your free coaching call and we will set up your program account. Your child will be able to take the math diagnostic immediately (although that isn't necessary). Once the diagnostic is complete, we will confer with you on a follow up call to go through the diagnostic data, and set your child off on their math learning path. Remember, the math learning path is self-paced, which means your child can learn as much as they want, wherever they want (wifi required) and as often as they want.
-
What is a Math diagnostic? The Math Diagnostic is an online assessment used to evaluate students' math skills, in grades K-12. It's designed to identify students' strengths and areas where they need support, and then tailor a personalized learning path for them. The diagnostic is adaptive, meaning the difficulty of questions adjusts based on the student's responses. The learning path that the program produces for your child, based on the diagnostic data, is accessible to your child (and you as parents) 24/7. One of the many awesome attributes of the program is that is provides countless "second chances" for students to catch up on math concepts they may have missed through previous grade levels, or even in today's math class at school. The Math Diagnostic is taken three times throughout the year, to show your child and yourselves, where they have grown and what the next steps of learning look like.
-
Is the Year Long Self-Paced Program really self-paced? Does my child have unlimited access?Yes! And, yes! Once you have purchased your one-year subscription for Royal Prep's Self-Paced Program, your child can log in, watch, engage, and interact with as many lessons as they desire. We have seen students begin 5th grade, below grade level in math and complete 170 lessons in a year (on top of what they are doing in the school) and graduate 5th grade at a late 6th grade level. This proves to a be an excellent middle school preparation program. Your child can come home from school and continue working on their math for as long as they like (although we don't recommend being too excessive).
-
Is it possible to align the Self-Paced Year Long Program with the math concepts my child is learning in school?100% An option we offer with the Self-Paced program is for you to inform us of the concept, or unit of work your child is learning in math class at school, and we will assign online lessons that cover those concepts. Our program is fully aligned to the Common Core Standards, so if they are teaching it in school, we have lessons that meet the standard.
-
How much does the Self-Paced Year Long Program cost? The cost of the Self-Paced Year Long Program is $999.99 per year (one off payment) You can also subscribe monthly for $99.99 per month. We encourage parents to give us a call because we offer discounts and when you sign up for two or more Royal Prep programs.

“Glyn has been an absolute favorite of our girls (and of us as well, of course). He has been instrumental in their own development and preparing them for high school, and he's certainly done a terrific job getting them there. Glyn has been essential in building the foundation for the middle school. He and his services will be greatly missed.”

“The best way I can explain it is to say that Glyn is happy in life. Have you ever seen the words that are posted over his whiteboard, like integrity and respect? Well, lots of teachers have those kinds of things in their classroom....but the difference is that for Glyn those aren't just words...they really mean something to him. He really believes that they are important and he acts that way all the time... It's like he IS those words.... and when I'm around him I want to be like that too.”
